Marketing Project

Collins loves to complain about homework. "It's the worst!"..."Whoever created homework is terrible!"..."Not AGAIN!". You get the picture. I tell her she could get her homework completed much faster if she eliminated the complaining part, but dramatic complaining is much more fun I think. She has not once enjoyed a homework assignment until this marketing project came along...

All second graders got to participate in a marketplace where they would invent, create, and market an item to their classmates who could then buy them. Collins's eyes immediately lit up at this assignment and decided quickly that she would make homemade stress balls.

Next, we had to research and test the best stress ball recipe. We settled on a recipe that involved balloons, flour and water which was easy, but MESSY. There was flour everywhere!

She probably made 25 stress balls in total (she needed only five but these five had to be the perfect shape and color) and then came up with a marketing poster. Collins spent so much time making her poster beautiful and deciding how best to sell her stress balls.

All her work paid off! She sold out and came home a happy girl. It was wonderful seeing her get so into a homework assignment- especially one that has so many practical applications.

Hoping third grade will have more homework like this- less worksheets and more strategy and creativity!
