Fun Road Trip

We took a calculated risk by taking a road trip to and from Davidson on the same day. Oh, and we decided to add a visit to the Train Museum in Spencer to the itinerary because why not? Trains and football...talk about a fun Saturday!

The first leg of the road trip was easy...

so we made good time to the tiny town of Spencer. Did you know they have an awesome display of trains and other historic locomotives there?? This place is definitely worth a visit, and too bad we only had about an hour to check it out.

They had a cool turntable and trains of all shapes and sizes. Not sure if Luke or his Daddy were more impressed. Then we got to take an actual train ride through the property...

Then we quick hit the road because the Wildcats were kicking off in less than an hour...time for some football!

Or scootering...the small people preferred scootering to football.

I took the kids to explore Davidson's campus...

They had a fantastic time whizzing along the flat campus's sidewalks, playing on the preschool playground, and NOT taking a nap (I'm looking at you Luke Fork). We got back just in time to watch the Cats win. Then it was time to head to Main Street for some shopping and food. Our friend, Tee, was in town and he treated us to appetizers at his restaurant, Flatiron. Can you tell what was next? :)

Yep, it was a beautiful Fall night so we couldn't resist ice cream and sitting outside with beers. The kids played and scooted, and we didn't want the night to end. Finally, we said goodnight to our friends and headed back across campus towards the car. Wow, the campus was pretty at night.

Somehow the kids had the energy to do a 100-yard-dash, and I didn't stop them because I wanted them to sleep on the way home. :)

We finally got in the car about 8 p.m. so it was about 11 p.m. when we got home. It was a full day, but our calculated risk paid off. Trains, football, gorgeous weather, friends, ice cream, scooters...a Saturday doesn't get more fun than that!
