We got home from Bald Head on a Saturday, and two days later Collins was back at Lacy and officially a second grader!
Okay, I'm pretty sure Collins is okay with Luke staying behind at home. :)
She might getting a little old for it, but we both still wanted to take her to school on her first day.
She was thrilled to find out (while we were still at BHI) that she got Ms. Barefoot AGAIN! Collins loved her first grade teacher, and when she found out she was moving up to the second grade she got really excited. What if she got her two years in a row? I told her the chances were not good, but what do I know? It worked out!
For the first time, dropping her off in her classroom was not a sad or scary thing. It was a happy moment because the first person she saw was Ms. Barefoot who gave her a big hug. Then Liza, her friend from last year, gave her a big hug. Then Joanna, her good friend from Kindergarten, gave her a big hug. Then Ms. Barefoot came around for a second hug! It just made us feel good to know that she was well loved and known in that room. Plus, she is up on the second floor this year in a big, bright classroom so that is good news as well.
Her first day went great. By the second grade, they really do have the routine down and plenty of friends to make the day fun. She was all smiles leaving.
And all smiles when she got home to find her "first day of school" cake waiting for her. :)
