Blast from the Past

Collins loves the new roller skates Gigi and Pop Pop gave her for her birthday. She skates around the house all the time, and we've also tried it on the greenway. But this past Saturday was cold (for a change) so we thought- why not let her try it at a roller skating rink?

We went to JellyBeans in Cary, and it was awesome. Talk about a blast from the past! I was immediately transported to Skateland USA in Hickory in the year 1989. Everything was amazingly the same! From the "jail" bars when you enter and pay, to the icky carpeted stools you sit on, to the disco ball lights, to the tan-colored skates, to the DJ booth high above the rink. I couldn't believe these places still existed! The only difference this time around was that you could text your song request to the DJ (if only texting was around when I was in middle school!) and that I was bopping along to JT's "Can't Stop the Feeling" with my daughters instead of Carrie Moretz. :)

Collins impressed us with her skating and immediately asked if we could come back. Addie was really excited about skating until she put the skates on and tried. Brian was secretly excited to try rollerblading again, and Luke even got a nap in despite the blaring music. So fun was had by all, and I'm pretty sure I see a 7th birthday party here in our future. Only question is...will it include a Barbie cake?!? :)
