Christmas Day 2017

Santa came! After all the build up of the holiday season, the big moment had finally arrived. Christmas morning! Both girls were up EARLY because they are old enough to understand that this Santa business is a big deal. :)

Luke led the way...

with his sisters chomping at the bit for us to let them come downstairs.

They were surprised by lots of doll accessories, a doll house...

clip-on earrings (a must from Santa!)...

a squishy (top on Addie's list)...

  a new trike...

a new bouncy ball collectors case...
a wiggly worm...

a Baby Alive for both girls...

(who could crawl, talk, and pee!)...
and some leftover reindeer food.
The girls could not rip through their stuff fast enough so Santa did not last very long. Then they were happy to play with their toys while we worked on breakfast. Unfortunately, we will always remember our Christmas breakfast because those darn cinnamon buns caught on fire. 😬 Yep, the gooey glaze dripped onto the bottom of the oven and all of a sudden we saw flames. The girls completely freaked out, and to be honest, Brian and I did a little bit too. We quickly doused the flames, but the kitchen smelled pretty bad after that. And would you believe- the sticky buns were actually still delicious? That Ina knows her stuff. :)

Anyway, after that drama, we commenced the present opening. Time to open the presents from each other under the tree! The girls were really excited about this part because this year for the first time, they picked out a present for each other. I took them to the toy store, and gave them each $10 to spend on the other. Sara gave me this idea, and I thought it was wonderful. They are on the receiving end of so much at Christmas, but they need to experience what a lovely feeling it is to GIVE.

Collins picked out a pink prancing pony for Addie, and Addie selected a glittery pouch for Collins. As you can see, they were thrilled...

But I have to say the best gift of Christmas day was the one I received from Brian...a new phone!!! My sweet hubby completely surprised me with what I needed the most- an upgraded phone that holds power, takes amazing pictures, and works all of the time not just some of the time! I could not have been more thrilled. He is so good to me.

The rest of the day was spent playing with our new stuff, cooking, watching "A Christmas Story", and getting ready for our Christmas dinner that night. Poppy and Nana were coming to town!

I love hosting a traditional dinner on Christmas night for our parents. There are no presents for this celebration, just a nice dinner (Brian smoked a turkey) and the chance to be together. It was great!

We had a good one this year. I don't think I'll ever live those cinnamon buns down, but hopefully they'll also remember what a happy day it was.
