A Child of God

We made it official on Sunday- Collins was baptized and marked as a child of God forever. It was pretty special.

Part of what made it so special was having our loved ones by us all weekend to celebrate the occasion. The fun started Friday night with Dad and Heather and dinner at The Pit. We consumed an impressive amount of Southern-fried-yumminess and then got a flavor of the arts downtown with the First Friday arts crawl.

On Saturday, we got to take Baba to her first-ever tailgate party. Collins didn't hurt for any attention with three Grandmas in tow.

This writer/photographer came by the tailgate and snapped some shots for a book he's writing.

After the tailgate, we hung out at the house and played with Collins' fun new toy.

We had a nice dinner at home- the Barefoot Contessa didn't let us down with her yummy chicken pot pie recipe. Then we got Collins all cleaned up for her big day.

I had some major anxiety going into Sunday; most of it focused on whether or not Collins would scream her lungs out at church. But the little one surprised us and did just fine. She did the trembling lip thing once and cried out, but mostly was fascinated by the Pastor and whole process.

Two extra special things about the baptism- Collins got to wear the Christening gown that Alli and I wore when we were baptized, and the pastor who performed the service is new and Collins was his first baptism EVER! Kinda neat.

Donna and Marty hosted a lovely brunch afterwards, and we had a great time hanging out with everybody. But someone was pushed to her limit. She fell asleep in Mom's arms.

Thanks to all our family and friends who made it such a wonderful weekend. Collins is a lucky little girl to be loved so much.
