A Parisian Party for Collins

Ooh, la, la! Time for a Parisian slumber party to celebrate our super special Collins. Because what other almost-nine-year-old dreams up and plans such a cool party theme? For some reason, lately Collins has been into all things French which is how we ended up with a pink/black color scheme, pomme frites, a crepe cake, some French trivia and a French-inspired movie, and to top it all off- croissants! Of course, it was a slumber party so that basically meant these four girls went wild and refused to go to sleep, but I've learned- that's part of the deal. It was a super fun night, but it almost had a disastrous start...because the heat stopped working!

If there's anything I learned in my former event planning profession it is that something will always unexpectedly go wrong. Even if the best laid plan is in place (which it was), you will have to quickly respond to some random thing that happens. On Collins's party day, the heat downstairs randomly shut off and it was FRIGID in our house. We freaked out of course b/c nothing will kill a party mood than cold fingers and a cold steak. But after warning all the girls to pack warm, we were able to get a repairman out at the last possible moment on a Saturday night to fix it and save the day!

The crepe cake turned out so cute...

and the table was so pretty...

the rooms were all set...

the French trivia was ready to go...

the dirty dishes were being cleaned...

and the macaroons were made! We were officially ready for a Parisian dinner party.

Peyton, Alice, and Reeves arrived just in time for cheese and to open their spa treats before dinner...

They ate nothing because they literally couldn't still long enough...

but there was lots of Cranberry Gingerale consumed that night!

Time to cut the cake...

Love this picture of them...

Collins did not like the crepe cake so the meal was basically a flop, but did they care? Not one bit. They ran around like wild women, applying makeup, giggling and finally settled down for "Ratatouille"- Collins's movie of choice. I thought the movie might be a bit too young for them, but those girls laughed and were glued to the TV for the whole time so they definitely enjoyed it. And Collins ate at least 15 macaroons.

Sleep did not happen that night (for them or for us). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong (b/c they seem to go to sleep at other people's houses), but I just can't get them to go to sleep no matter how stern I get with them. Of course I call this a fail, and they call it a success.

So these two were the first ones up...

But not too much sleeping in for the big girls because they want more time to play...they did come down long enough for croissants and to wipe us out of bacon (Alice, I'm looking at you).

Collins got some really fun presents, and then unfortunately had to say goodbye to her friends...

It was a fabulous and memorable 9th birthday celebration! I loved seeing her Parisian party vision come to life, and it was really fun for me to help her make plans. Not sure if the event planner or the Mom in me had more fun, but either way- I'll never forget this birthday party. It was tres chic!
