One day in September I was driving by the Angus Barn when I had the idea that we should take the kids there over the holidays. They had never been to this Raleigh icon before, and what neater way to celebrate the holidays? Turns out you cannot get a reservation in December even months in advance, so I had to settle for the Sunday before Thanksgiving. That week was technically the official start to "the holidays", right?
They were excited to get dressed up and go out to "The Barn" for a fancy dinner...and look how pretty it looks all decorated (which happens in October by the way)!
It was so exciting to see decorated Christmas trees...
especially when they are two stories high.
I had never been to the Angus Barn over the holidays, and man was it impressive. Every inch of that restaurant glittered or sparkled- I can see why they start decorating months in advance.
Oh and while you wait on your table, they give you those cheese, crackers, and pickles to munch on which is really how you want to start any meal.
Once we were seated, the food really started coming and didn't stop for awhile. More cheese, crackers, and pickles? Yes, please! What about a rib appetizer? Sure. How about some bread and a large salad smothered in homemade Bleu cheese dressing. I think I will. And THEN you got your main entree.
We paid a whopping amount for that dinner, and don't you know Luke's favorite part was the maraschino cherry on top of the applesauce. :)
Oh, he also enjoyed when he got invited into the kitchen to make his own ice cream sundae...
Perhaps even more than the ice cream making opportunity, the girls were most impressed by the Angus Barn's bathroom. A super cool feathered mannequin is definitely the way to get my girls' attention.
It was such a fun night that we quickly decided it would become an annual tradition for our family...the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. And hopefully next year, Luke will eat more than the maraschino cherry and ice cream!
