Spring Break- Part 2

I was shocked when I talked to so many Raleigh people who were traveling to Paris, to Spain, to Mexico, to the Bahamas, etc. for Spring Break. Well, don't be jealous Raleigh peeps when I tell you we are going to HICKORY for our break. And that my kids could not be any more excited. :)

Sunday night at Poppy and Nana's started off with a whoopee cushion and ended with pizza. Strong night!

The next morning at Mimi's, the kids got to meet Luna (Mimi's new dog) and have an Easter Egg hunt. Baba may have given Luke a few hints.

Collins and Addie are AGRESSIVE egg hunters. 👀 Not sure who raked in more loot.

We had to do a front yard egg hunt and a back yard egg hunt.

Collins loved Luna. Luke and Addie not so much. She is so sweet, but her energy scared the little ones because they are just not used to being around dogs. Hopefully, they will love her with time.

How could you not with this face??

Lilly they are cool with... :)

 Egg hunting a success!

It was cool and gorgeous in Hickory. We sat on Mom's deck and played games and hung out with the dogs.

Then the girls got to dye eggs. So glad they got to do Easter activities in Hickory because for some reason I had not done any in Raleigh. Was just not feeling it this year.

Back at Poppy's we walked down the road to the playground...

and then went to kids' favorite place- Defy Gravity. They jumped and sweated and tricked for an hour, and it wasn't even crowded. They had a great time despite Addie sustaining a possible ankle injury. Eek! She was okay, just limping a little.

Dinner at the Station turned silly once Poppy accepted a dare to eat crackers with ketchup and mustard. Addie had to follow suit and turns out it's not as good as Poppy says it is. :)

Our last morning in Hickory, we found a neat new place to paint pottery through Hickory Parks and Rec. Look at this little boy's concentration...he must have painted 10 coats on his Easter Egg and was quite proud of his finished product.

You won't be surprised to find out that Addie painted Rudolph the reindeer....

and Collins painted a mail basket for her new tree house! (she doesn't have one but she wants one)

The kids love doing pottery- they always ask to do it when we go to Hickory. Glad to find another good place to get our creative juices flowing. :)

Mom packed us a picnic and next stop was Glen Hilton Park. I used to love this park when I was little.

We enjoyed the sunshine and the rice krispy treats and then said our goodbyes. What a fun time we had in Hickory with our family! But time to hit the road and spend a little time in Raleigh before our final destination of Spring Break.

Spring Break- Part 1

Spring Break arrived, and we were excited for nine days to hang out together and do some fun things. Our first stop? Greensboro!

Mandy had the great idea to take the kids to the Greensboro Science Center. How perfect that she suggested going the day before our trip to Hickory. We moved up our trip by a day and went en route to visit the grandparents.

This place was AMAZING! It's an aquarium, zoo, and science center all rolled into one. Andrea and Evie came, Mandy and Emma came, and we had such a good time exploring together.

This was a surprise...

They had peacocks just roaming free in the zoo area. Collins was very impressed to see one up close because she had dressed up as a peacock for Halloween this year, but  think she was a little unnerved at the same time!

 They had barnyard animals...

and monkeys! This amazed the kids (especially Luke)- these Gibbon monkeys swung right over to us and put on a little show...

What a neat habitat they had complete with a slide in the air. We were really hoping they would go down it, but no luck.

We saw lemurs...

and pythons...👀

komodo dragons (so creepy!)...

and dinosaurs!

We got to watch them feed the sharks in the big tank...

and pop up for a closer look at lion fish...

and we even saw an African penguin named Donna. The kids thought that was so funny. :)

On our way out, guess who slithered out from behind the rocks in the big tank? The creepiest animal of the day- the moray eel! It was so gross, but cool at the same time.

I couldn't believe all the unusual animals we saw in 2 1/2 hours. This science center is a must-see, and I was so glad we experienced it with our friends. We said our goodbyes then hopped in the car for the last leg of our trip to Hickory. Time for Spring Break spot #2!
