The Perfect Fall Weekend

We always have a good time when Mimi and Baba come to town- but combine their visit with fun Fall activities and perfect Fall weather- and it doesn't get much better than this! We had a great weekend!

We got things off to a good start with a visit to Hayes Barton for some desserts...

Collins went to our neighborhood "Camp Creative- Halloween" and Mimi and the dogs walked her over to camp. (our neighbor Kate puts it on and Collins thinks Kate is super cool)

After a fun lunch at Logans and some flower shopping, we came home and made this delicious-ness (monster mix) and watched a monster movie (Monsters, Inc.) in honor of Halloween. Collins loved the mix, not so much the monsters!

Then this precious moment....Baba teaching Collins how to make homemade biscuits. This is crucial information being shared! She also taught us how to make country style steak. Our Southern dinner was amazing.

On Sunday, we visited the Page Farm pumpkin patch. Best farm ever! We had a great time visiting the animals, going on a hayride, picking out pumpkins, and weaving our way through the corn maze.

The perfect Fall weekend!

Bad Blogger

Wow, am I a bad blogger. I love to write about our life and post fun pictures, but lately I have not found the time to do it. Instagram is partly to blame (such an easy and quick way to share my pix!) and so is Bake Sale and so is football season. Well, I have a lot to catch you up on. Here goes!

The State Fair

I think there were at least a million people at the State Fair the Sunday we went. And most of them were in line in front of me waiting for the NC State ice cream. We were excited to take both girls to the fair, but wow we chose the wrong time! Thank goodness it was beautiful, Addie was able to nap in her stroller, Collins got her face painted, Brian got his ham biscuit, and I got my ice cream. Otherwise, it may have not been worth it!

Collins saw the Ferris Wheel and had to ride it. She wasn't scared at all. I don't remember the last time I rode one, but it was kind of thrilling to ride it with her for the first time!

Interestingly enough, the face painting was her favorite part...

Brian was a good sport to ride the very manly tea cups with her. :)

The #1 reason I attend the State Fair...chose banana pudding this year! I waited in line 30 minutes for this- no kidding- and it was totally worth it.

Collins was inspired by the face painting and came home and got busy with her brush. Bree (her doll) and Brian and I both got full face designs. :) She had a great time at the fair this year!

Davidson Football

Brian has worked really hard for Davidson's football program this past year. He's trying to vastly improve the program, and that's not an easy task. I'm glad we finally got to go to a Davidson game with him since it's so important to him. Collins was more focused on Drew Nichols than the game, but she had a great time. Cats lost a heartbreaker unfortunately, but they showed improvements. Hopefully a W is right around the corner.

Before the game, we took Drew and Jack to Pullen Park...

Davidson vs. Campbell...first trip to Buies Creek. Gorgeous Fall day, but don't really need to go back! :)

You Go Girl

Got herself completely dressed from head to toe today...

Performed an inspriring concert mermaid-style...

Nailed that rain puddle...(and soaked two completely different outfits)

Never a dull moment with our fabulous CC!

A Fall Trip West

We were excited to line up a trip to Hickory in the middle of October- hoping to not only visit our family but to also spend some time in the mountains. Alli and I both were itching to get up to Blowing Rock to take a hike, breathe in the cool mountain air, and see some beautiful Fall foliage. Alas, that did not happen....we got a soaking rain, warmer temperatures, and not much color on the trees. But we forged ahead on the Boone Fork Trail, and completed an awesome five-mile hike with Tallulah leading the way!

Then we checked out Hickory's Oktoberfest (which I always remembered as being so cool but apparently I was wrong) where Collins and Mimi enjoyed the foot long corn dog.

Our big surprise of the weekend- Collins bonding with the four dogs in the house! She has always been nervous around the dogs, but somehow she got over that and petted, played and talked to the dogs all weekend. A big step, and a fun trip!

Addie at 9 Months

Addie at 9 months....precious as always, but also...

A good sleeper! (FINALLY we get a full 12 hour stretch without waking up!)
A good eater (enjoying lots of different foods, but liking her milk less and less)
A frustrated crawler (loves standing, but has a hard time on her belly trying to move forward)
A lover of the playground (no longer can be carried around, has to be doing things)
A first-class wiggler (has to be trapped in her high chair to eat)
A baby with a great head of hair (never to be tamed!)

Official 9 month photos...

And my favorites from the month...

The Tooth

The trauma that was the tooth...

A few weeks back, we had taken a walk in the BOB because Addie had gotten her first cold ever and couldn't nap. Collins asked if she could get out and run once we got to the neighborhood, and I said yes. She took off on the sidewalk as carefree as could be, a huge smile on her face, and then BAM. She hit the sidewalk hard...I pulled her up and saw the blood around her mouth and knew it was not good, but didn't realize till we hobbled home that her front tooth was loose.

With dread, I called the dentist and went to the first office that could get us right in. Unfortunately, I hadn't taken her to the dentist before so this was her first-ever trip, and it was a doozy. They confirmed that the tooth had been cracked in the fall and that the crack went up into her nerve....i.e. bad news. We had two choices- she could have a baby root canal (a long, painful procedure that probably wouldn't work and the tooth would eventually rot), or we could extract the tooth. I wanted to cry when he delivered the news. I had to be brave because I didn't want Collins to be scared, but what a tough moment that was for me as a parent. I knew what we had to do, and it just made me very sad. That precious smile would be changed for at least three years (till the permanents came in), and how was she going to handle them yanking out her tooth?

Turns out she was a very brave little girl, and thank goodness they played "Frozen" on a TV above her head. It was hard to watch them give her laughing gas, to numb the area, and to watch her fear as they actually pulled it. But she was a trooper, and we took her to get a large cupcake afterwards to celebrate that.

She was excited to put her tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy (she had read about this in her Berenstain Bear book). She woke up the next morning excited to find that the tooth fairy had left $1 AND she got to keep her tooth. She was momentarily confused but excited to have something to show and tell!

Collins amazed me the next day. She bounced back so quickly- confident as ever- and wondering, "Will people think I'm older than 3 1/2 because I've already lost a tooth? Because I'm actually only 3 1/2!". She thought it was cool that she had lost a tooth.

She also told Gigi that if she ever wanted to watch "Frozen" she just needed to run really fast and fall and then go to the dentist and you could watch it. :)

And who knew a lost tooth would get you presents? She promptly spent her tooth fairy money on a new Cinderella Barbie, and then got adorable Halloween pajamas from Alli, a fun Halloween book from Gigi, and some popsicles from her friend Margaret in the neighborhood. So losing a tooth does have its perks!

Important parent lesson learned- accidents happen and kids are resilient. It will be okay. :)

Fall Things

Why I love Fall...

1) Best food...chili, pumpkin everything, apple desserts, sweet potatoes- the list goes on and on...

2) The wonderful display of pumpkins, mums, and apples...

3) Perfect weather which makes our walks to the park so enjoyable...

4) Decorating with my favorite colors of yellow and orange...

5) Football (including impromptu lunch games)...

6) This year, I'm adding a new one to the list- training for a half marathon. Turns out this the perfect time of year to train for a race. It's really been a treat to do my runs!
